Delivering Rules that Work on Farm

  • B.linc Workshop Lincoln University Campus Lincoln New Zealand (map)

Proposed changes to winter grazing regulations seem to be a sensible step forward, but DairyNZ are working to ensure practical solutions and help deliver rules that work on-farm.

With primary sector feedback, and really looking into the detail, DairyNZ are working to understand how these changes might work in practice, encouraging farmers to establish their crops well, in line with weather and managing environmental risk.

Join us to hear from DairyNZ Head of South Island, Tony Finch as he shares their considerations on the winter grazing regulations and how they are working with farmers to ensure that they are heard.

The B.linc VIBE event series is an opportunity to hear from one of the wider Lincoln precinct companies about their business and to touch base, reconnect and build connections across the precinct.

Meet Our Speaker

Tony Finch – Head of the South, DairyNZ

Tony has been involved in the agricultural industry his entire life, starting off on a small family farm of 100 cows in Waiuku near Auckland, then working in the dairy industry across numerous countries, finally landing back in New Zealand to join the national industry good body DairyNZ in 2013.

Has been involved in many aspects of farming on both sides of the farm gate.  Has worked in hands-on farm management roles, in farm financial services within the banking industry, and as the General Manager of a large-scale corporate dairy farming business. At DairyNZ his current role is focused on leading a team to deliver a better future for dairy farmers through research, science, development, and extension.

After completing a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (majoring in farm management and valuation) at Massey University, Tony spent most of the next 10 years in rural finance, and a further 10 years managing a start-up large scale dairy farming business which included the development and operation of a 5,000-hectare dairy operation for international shareholders in Missouri, USA.

Tony maintains personal and governance interests in dairy farms within New Zealand and the USA, as well as interests in marketing New Zealand agriculture products within India and the USA.  He is incredibly positive and passionate about the future of New Zealand agriculture.
