How Data Can Change our World
A ‘creative technologist’ with over 25 years of leading high-tech companies, Andrew Plimmer has a diverse experience in successfully designing and delivering technology solutions to global companies across the food and beverage sector.
From technology to provide real-time information from dairy farms for food safety and logistics efficiency, soil and weather monitoring, to advanced computer vision and machine learning solutions for retail environments, Plimmer has a long history of combining seemingly disparate technologies and data to engage consumers and provide insights on what really matters. As an international expert speaker to food and beverage companies, he bridges the role of futurist and pragmatist, condensing complex technologies and trends into real-world solutions.
As part of the Leftfield Innovation team, Plimmer is currently working on a range of initiatives aimed at increasing the economic and environmental sustainability of New Zealand land and water use.
In this session, Plimmer will explore the big issues affecting New Zealand’s food and fibre sector in the ‘new normal’, and the role that good information plays in the global economy.
Plimmer will give examples of how pragmatism can deliver quick results that generate ongoing returns, and throughout the discussion will explore how farmers and those in the food and fibre value-chain capture and share information, and where opportunities lie to create sustainable value.
