Waikirikiri Ki Tua Future Selwyn captures the long-term strategic approach for intergenerational wellbeing, sustainability, resilience, growth, change, and development in Waikirikiri Selwyn.
Selwyn is one of the first councils in Aotearoa to have digital resources and tools available on a purpose built website to help you visualize the impact and changes happening in the Selwyn region, how the strategy will guide future growth, the vision for our townships, and connectivity. Users can also adjust data to see the potential impacts of changing population and view scenarios for the future based on a changing climate and other variables. We’re joined by Selwyn District Council Strategy Team Leader George Sariak and the Strategy Team as he shares an overview of Waikirikiri Ki Tua Future Selwyn and learn more about the tools available.
Selwyn District Council want to know what you think of the strategy and whether they’re on the right track with the vision for the district’s future.
This is your opportunity to share your views with them. Share your thoughts on the vision for your future Selwyn and if you agree with the direction for township growth and connection.
Your feedback will be considered to help finalise the strategy and guide the development of three Area Plans that will be brought back to community for engagement later in the year.

About Our Speakers
George Sariak, Strategy Team Leader, Selwyn District Council
George Sariak is the Strategy Team Leader at Selwyn District Council. Originally from South Wales, George moved to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2020 working at a planning consultancy in Tauranga before moving south and joining Selwyn District Council in 2021. George holds an MSc Spatial Planning with Sustainable Urban Design from the University of Dundee. George’s mahi has been primarily focused on managing urban growth through the development of spatial plans and strategies. This includes the draft of Waikirikiri Ki Tua Future Selwyn that is currently out for public consultation.
